Why track your baby’s kicks?
The second trimester brings a regular movement pattern of your baby inside your tummy. This is a significant way for mapping your little one’s health and being familiar with what’s good for them.
Any changes in the usual movements of your baby can be a signal that something’s not right. By keeping a regular watch over their kicks, you can identify the early signs of potential complications, and you can consult your doctor instantly.
Baby’s movements inside you help in strengthening your emotional connection with them. It makes you feel happy and at peace that your baby is doing fine.

When do kicks usually start?
In most cases, baby movements can usually start between 18 to 24 weeks of pregnancy, where you feel a fluttering sensation in your tummy. However, if you are a first-time mom, then you may be able to sense their movements in the middle of 20-24 weeks. Meanwhile, in case of a second pregnancy, the kicks can start in week 16. After 28 weeks, the baby’s movements increase rapidly.

What’s normal and what needs a doctor's eye?
It’s normal if your baby is rolling, moving and kicking on a regular basis. Also, by week 28 of your pregnancy, you can feel a consistent frequency in your baby’s kicking, especially after having meals or changing your resting position. These are good signs and indicate your baby’s healthy development.
On the other hand, you need to see a doctor if you are feeling no kicks or fewer than 10 kicks every 2 hours after 28 weeks. Also, a change in the baby’s usual movement and strength can be a cause of concern.
